Resetting the flight control system is about restoring normal control authority after a fault by clearing what lockout or fault state has been placed on the FCCs. The FLT CTRL RESET switch resets the flight control computers and their associated control surface actuators, and removes the lockouts that may have prevented FCCs from issuing normal control commands. This is done as part of the checklist when a fault is detected, to allow the system to reestablish normal flight control without a full power reset. It isn’t a generic avionics reboot, it doesn’t engage the autopilot in alternate mode, and it doesn’t deploy the landing gear.
